Labs21 Introductory Course: High-Performance, Low-Energy Design
Half-Day Workshop
This version of the Labs21 Introductory Course on High-Performance, Low-Energy Design is a half-day workshop that introduces strategies for designing and constructing sustainable laboratories in both new and existing facilities. While designed as an introductory course, all those familiar with sustainable laboratory design are encouraged to attend the course and contribute to the discussion.
Seasoned laboratory designers, energy managers, and facilities professionals from the Labs21 Team will teach the course, and cover topics that include:
- The architecture and engineering of high-performance laboratories
- The energy-efficient design process
- Air supply and distribution systems
- Laboratory exhaust systems
- Lighting
- Case studies
- Resources and tools
Who Should Attend This Workshop?
Laboratory professionals from all backgrounds are encouraged to attend this course because it gives a good introduction to laboratory sustainability and why it's such an important issue. Laboratory professionals encouraged to attend include but are not limited to:

As part of the course, each participant will receive detailed course materials, including access to the Labs21 Tool Kit —a valuable resource to help attendees meet their sustainable design goals.
Continuing Education Credits
This course is worth 4 Green Building Certification Institute Continuing Education Hours toward the LEED Credential Maintenance Program, as approved by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC); 3 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for professional engineers; and 3 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) from the American Institute of Architects for registered architects.
